Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia is a condition in which male breasts are enlarged. Enlarged male breasts may result from hormonal changes, heredity, disease, or the use of certain drugs. Gynecomastia can lead to embarrassment and have many negative effects on a man’s self-esteem and social life. To eliminate this excess tissue and restore a more masculine chest appearance, Estehair Medical in London performs gynecomastia surgery.

Our board-certified plastic surgeons have extensive skill and experience performing gynecomastia surgery in London. Their keen eye for aesthetics and the surgical knowledge to achieve excellent results is unmatched.

What can male breast reduction surgery do for your appearance?

Gynecomastia surgery in our leading plastic surgery clinic in London removes excess breast tissue to achieve a more defined chest — ultimately revealing more masculine and distinguished contours. Gynecomastia can affect both breasts (bilateral), or it may affect just one breast (unilateral).

For those with unilateral gynecomastia, this procedure can create pectorals that are as similar as possible.

What happens during male breast reduction surgery?

During gynecomastia at Estehair Medical, we focus on excess fat tissue, excess glandular tissue, or both. Our lead surgeon will evaluate your individual condition and discuss the best options to achieve your goals.

In some cases, liposuction and tissue extraction may be used together:

Liposuction: Removes excess fat tissue

  •     A thin, hollow tube is inserted through small incisions and used to suction out fat
  •     Ideal for patients with good skin quality
  •     Results in inconspicuous scarring

Tissue Extraction: Removes excess glandular tissue

  •  An incision along the border of the areola is used to excise excess glandular tissue
  •  If necessary, excess skin can be removed (results in scars that blend in with the natural border of the areola)

Who qualifies for male breast reduction?

Gynecomastia surgery in London is most commonly performed for young adult males between 18 and 30 years of age. Patients should be physically mature before undergoing the procedure. Our experienced medical team will evaluate whether a younger patient is a candidate during an individualized consultation.

Recovering from Male Breast Reduction

As with all surgical procedures, there is a recovery process after gynecomastia surgery at Estehair Medical to ensure you heal properly.

  • 1-5 Days

The chest will be bandaged and wrapped with a compression vest. Drains will be placed under the arms to remove excess fluids and minimize swelling for the first 3 to 5 days. Pain medication will be prescribed to ease any swelling and discomfort.

  • 1 Week

Patients return to work after 4 to 7 days. However, patients should avoid physical activity and exercise at this time.

  • 1 to 3 Months

Contouring and definition will improve, with any skin laxity beginning to retract. Tissue retraction, definition, and contouring will continue to improve.
